Rep. Gallego Selected as Bicameral Negotiator on Annual Defense Bill; Giving Arizona a Seat at the Table
As Arizona’s senior Armed Services Committee member, Rep. Gallego will lead in shaping the final FY24 NDAA
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, the U.S. House of Representatives approved a resolution declaring Rep. Ruben Gallego (AZ-03) a conferee on the House and Senate conference committee for the fiscal year 2024 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA).
“As Arizona’s senior-most member to sit on either the House or Senate Armed Services Committees, I’ve worked to secure key wins for our state in this year’s NDAA. I look forward to advancing these bipartisan provisions in the conferenced bill so we can ensure Arizona’s military community remains front and center in our goal of strengthening our national security,” said Rep. Ruben Gallego.
As a member of the conference committee, Rep. Gallego will have a seat at the table to guide the final language of the FY24 NDAA.
When the House passed its version of the NDAA in June, Rep. Gallego secured nearly 20 provisions, including mandating a report on the role of DoD in supporting a national emergency declaration combating the fentanyl crisis and requiring an analysis of potential threats the illicit fentanyl drug trade poses to the defense interests of the United States.
When the Senate passed its version of the NDAA, it included an anti-fentanyl money laundering policy pushed by Rep. Gallego. The provision was introduced in the House by Rep. Gallego as the Buck Stops Here Act.
As a conferee, Rep. Gallego will fight to get these provisions, as well as other provisions that support Arizona’s military and veterans communities, across the finish line.
