PASSED: Rep. Ruben Gallego Amendment Reiterating the Need for U.S. Military Presence in South Korea

WASHINGTON, DC—Rep. Ruben Gallego (D-AZ) today announced the passage of his bipartisan amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) that reiterates the need for the United States to maintain a strong alliance with and military presence in South Korea.

"South Korea is a critical U.S. ally, and our robust military presence in South Korea serves as a strong deterrent against North Korea military aggression, bringing stability not only to the Korean peninsula, but to the greater Indo-Pacific region. The inclusion of my provision today reiterating the importance of this alliance and our presence in South Korea sends a strong signal to both our allies in the region and our strategic competitors, and I'm pleased my amendment was adopted into the defense package," said Rep. Ruben Gallego.

If you're interested in scheduling time to speak with Rep. Gallego about the amendment, or about the NDAA, please don't hesitate to reach out.

The language reiterates that the presence of 28,500 United States Armed Forces in South Korea serves as a strong deterrent against North Korean military aggression and as reassurance for our allies in the region.
