Gallego Announces $9 Million Grant for Head Start Programs in Arizona
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Rep. Ruben Gallego (D-AZ), announced Southwest Human Development will receive a $9,273,338 grant from the Department of Health and Human Services to support Head Start projects in Arizona.
“Every child in Arizona deserves to have the support they need to succeed,” said Rep. Gallego. “Head Start provides low-income children from birth through age five with the critical foundation they need to develop and flourish. I’m proud to have long supported Head Start, and I’m excited to see this new investment coming to support families in our community.”
Administered by the United States Department of Health and Human Services, Head Start provides comprehensive early childhood education, health, nutrition, and parent involvement services to low-income children and families. Southwest Human Development is Arizona’s largest non-profit organization dedicated to early childhood development, with 900 staff members providing services to tens of thousands of children and their families.
Last month, Rep. Gallego met with members of the Arizona Head Start Association to discuss how Congress can help improve access to this critical program.
