Gallego Announces 2022 Congressional Art Competition Winners

Phoenix, AZ — Rep. Ruben Gallego (AZ-07) announced the winners of the 2022 Congressional Art Competition for Arizona’s seventh congressional district. 40 students submitted art for this year’s competition, and a panel of local judges from the seventh congressional district determined the first, second, and third place winners.

“I am incredibly proud of the students who submitted pieces for this year’s Congressional Art Competition. Their work reflects the creativity and excellence of students in our district, and it was an honor to see so many submissions worthy of praise,” said Rep. Gallego. “I want to extend a warm congratulations to Alicia Bai, our first-place winner, and to Rose Aceves and Angel Benavides Hernandez who came in second and third. Thank you, as well, to the parents and teachers who supported all the participants in this year’s contest. I look forward to seeing Alicia’s piece hanging in the U.S. Capitol, and to having Rose and Angel’s artwork in my district office for the community to enjoy. Congratulations to Alicia, Rose, and Angel!”

First Place: “Not My Home” by Alicia Bai, 10th Grade, Home-Schooled

Second Place: “The Truth Untold” by Rose Aceves, 12th Grade, Cesar Chavez High School

Third Place: “Dimensions of Life” by Angel Benavides Hernandez, 11th Grade, North High School

The Congressional Art Competition is an opportunity to recognize and encourage the artistic talent of high school students across the nation. Each year, the artwork of the first-place winner from our congressional district's competition will be displayed for a full year in the U.S. Capitol alongside artwork from contest winners nationwide. Second and third place winners will be displayed for a year in the congressman's Phoenix office.
