Arizona Congressman Ruben Gallego to introduce 'Good Neighbor Gun Dealer Act' in Washington DC

Arizona Rep. Ruben Gallego, along with other members of congress in DC, introduced the "Good Neighbor Gun Dealer Act" on Friday.

Rep. Gallego worked with Illinois Rep. Robin Kelly and Rep. Mike Quigley, and DC Rep. Eleanor Holmes Norton to start this bill in response to increase in gun crimes in the country.

This legislation would require the Department of Justice to establish a code of conduct for licensed gun dealers and create a national "Good Neighbor" certificate for those who abide by gun-dealing requirements. This bill would also require the DOJ to investigate illegal firearm dealers and identify where they are being sold.

Every day, on average, more than 10 prohibited people obtain a firearm just because a dealer does not wait for a full background check to be completed.

"The Good Neighbor Gun Dealer Act will encourage gun dealers to adopt best practices and help keep guns out of the hands of criminals and the mentally ill," Congressman Gallego said. "Gun violence is a big problem in Arizona and throughout the country, we must hold gun dealers to a higher standard of conduct and name and shame the bad apple dealers that are making our communities less safe."

This bill aims to address the small number of illegal gun dealers in the country who sell most of the guns used in crimes.
