WRAP UP: Gallego Catches Up with Arizona Mayors in DC
WASHINGTON – In town for the U.S. Conference of Mayors Winter Meeting, Rep. Ruben Gallego (AZ-03) was happy to catch-up with mayors from across Arizona to discuss their needs and how best he can continue to serve as their voice in Congress.
“Arizona’s mayors work tirelessly to support our communities, and I always welcome opportunities to sit down and discuss how we can continue to fight for all Arizonans,” said Rep. Gallego. “From transportation projects in Buckeye, improving digital equity in Glendale, and building more housing in Tucson, I’m proud to work with these local leaders to deliver results for everyday Arizonans.”
Mayor Orsborn and Rep. Gallego discussed several transportation projects Buckeye is working on and how Rep. Gallego can champion these projects going forward.
In Glendale, Rep. Gallego secured $1.3 million in 2023 community project funding to connect three community centers to high-speed internet and to retrofit the community centers with Wi-Fi-enabled devices and technology. For 2024, he has requested $1 million to rehabilitate one of the city’s critical groundwater wells.
In Tucson, Rep. Gallego has requested community project funding for Tucson’s South 10th Avenue Affordable and Mixed-Income House Development. He has also worked closely with Tucson and Pima County leaders to address the failed Shelter and Services Program (SSP) which is supposed to provide financial support for communities dealing with incoming migrants. In September 2023, Rep. Gallego announced he secured over $1 million in emergency SSP funding for Pima County.
