Rep. Gallego Votes to Preserve Critical Access to Medications and Safe Voting by Protecting the U.S. Postal Service From Trump Administration Attacks

WASHINGTON, DC—Rep. Ruben Gallego (D-AZ) issued the following statement after voting for the Delivering for America Act (H.R. 8015), which would preserve and enhance USPS services.

"President Trump has shown a willingness to weaponize the federal government to serve his political campaign interests and the U.S. Postal Service is no exception," Rep. Gallego said.

"Trump's political crony, Postmaster General DeJoy, has removed critical mail sorting machines and cut the availability of overtime for postal workers, knowing that these changes would likely prevent ballots from being delivered on time to be counted in November. The Trump Administration's sabotage of the right of Americans to safely and securely vote by mail is blatantly intended to suppress the vote and undermine faith in our elections.

"These actions do more than just jeopardize our democratic system. Seniors and veterans waiting for weeks for delayed medications, businesses depending on USPS to run their operations, and every day Americans in both rural and urban areas are Trump's expendable casualties in this sick political game.

"Passing the Delivering for America Act is a small part of the efforts of House Democrats to safeguard our elections and all the essential, life-saving services of USPS that millions of Americans depend on every day."
