Rep. Gallego Issues Statement on Upcoming Trumpcare Vote

Washington, D.C. –Congressman Ruben Gallego issued a statement on today's vote on the Republican health care bill that repeals the Affordable Care Act and gives massive tax breaks to the top 1% of wealthiest Americans. The vote takes place on the 7th anniversary of the signing of the Affordable Care Act, which has expanded health coverage to an additional 20 million people.

Rep. Gallego issued the following statement:

"In the seven years since the Affordable Care Act was signed into law, Democrats have focused on giving Americans greater access to health care at a lower cost while Republicans blocked attempts to reign in drug prices and to extend coverage to working families. At no point in the past seven years did Republicans produce a viable plan for improving our health care system.

"President Donald Trump, Speaker Paul Ryan and House Republicans want to pass a bill today that pushes 24 million people off their health coverage and significantly raises premiums and out of pocket expenses for hard working Americans, all while giving massive tax cuts to the top 1%. The Trump-Ryan health care bill raids the Medicare Trust Fund and puts the money directly into the pockets of the richest Americans.

"Today, I will vote against the Trump-Ryan health plan and any other attempt by House Republicans to stick it to working families."
