Rep. Gallego Announces Support for President Biden’s Afghanistan Force Posture Plan

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Representative Ruben Gallego (D-AZ) announced his support for President Biden's announced intention to withdraw U.S. troops from Afghanistan by September 11th, 2021, the 20th anniversary of the attacks on New York and Washington that led to U.S. military engagement in the country.

Rep. Gallego released the following statement:

"I fully support President Biden's plan to draw down our force posture Afghanistan. It has been 20 years since the attacks on September 11th, 2001, which were why we went into Afghanistan in the first place. I look forward to working with the administration and our Afghan partners to ensure that Afghanistan remains a place where attacks on the United States, our allies, and interests, can no longer be planned and organized.

"It is a testament to the determination, bravery, and skill of our armed forces, our allies, and our Afghan partners who have fought for so long in Afghanistan that we are able to make this drawdown, but it is time to bring them home. I look forward to working with our allies and partners to ensure that Afghanistan does not backslide into the chaos and violence that allowed for Osama bin Laden and Al Qaeda to attack us in the first place.

"As we move forward, we must ensure that the United States is never again ensnared in forever wars and do right by those Afghan partners who helped us for the past 20 years by enabling their immigration to the United States."
