Rep. Gallego Announces 2021 Congressional App Challenge Winners
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Ruben Gallego (AZ-07) recognized three students from Arizona’s 7th Congressional district as winners of this year’s Congressional App Challenge – a competition that challenges high school students from across the United States to create their own mobile applications.
University High School seniors Kamille Cuison, Liana Kay De Guzman, and Nathan Caldwell-Meeks won first place for their app, titled “Surviving the Pandemic while Back-to-School”. To view the team’s YouTube video explaining their app, click here.
“Surviving the Pandemic while Back-to-School” will be displayed on the Congressional App Challenge website and will be exhibited on a digital display in the Capitol Building for a year, along with winning apps from students around the country.
“I want to congratulate Kamille, Liana, and Nathan, the winners of this year’s Congressional App Challenge,” said Rep. Ruben Gallego. “Coming up with a creative app for students dealing with all the difficulties of the pandemic, which helps keeps their fellow students safe, highlights not only the impressive technical skills of these students, but also their care for their community. This team has an incredibly bright future ahead of them, and I look forward to seeing how they and all those who participated in this year’s challenge will help make the world a better place.”
The annual Congressional App Challenge is a nation-wide effort to highlight the importance of STEM education and spur interest in coding and computer-science education among middle- and high-school students. This was the fourth year that students from Arizona’s 7th Congressional district submitted entries to the competition.
More information about the competition and winning apps from other congressional districts across the country can be found on the House of Representatives’ website.
