Gallego Votes for Bipartisan Spending Agreement, Avoiding a Devastating Government Shutdown
The spending agreement includes funding for Arizona’s border communities and law enforcement, a pay raise for our service members, and support for everyday Arizonans
WASHINGTON — Today, Rep. Ruben Gallego (AZ-03) voted to avoid a government shutdown and approve funding for necessary programs that support Arizona’s border communities, law enforcement, and service members.
“Today’s bipartisan spending agreement delivers needed funds for Arizona, including resources for our border communities and vital support for our state’s service members and military families,” Rep. Gallego said. “But our work is far from done. I’m going to keep fighting to get Arizona’s border communities and law enforcement the resources and support they need to secure our border, keep Arizonans safe, and stop the flow of fentanyl into our communities.”
Today’s bipartisan government spending package invests in critical border security priorities Rep. Gallego has fought for, including:
- $1.6 billion for border management requirements and $495 million for additional Border Patrol Agents
- $75.5 million for fentanyl scanners
- $650 million for the Shelter and Services Program
It also supports Arizona’s service members through a 5.2% pay raise, avoids devastating proposed cuts of more than 22% that would have harmed everyday Arizonans, and rejects far-right extremist attempts to limit women’s reproductive freedom.
