Gallego Holds One-On-One Call with Israeli Ambassador to the U.S.
WASHINGTON, DC — Rep. Ruben Gallego (AZ-03), ranking member of the House Armed Services Subcommittee on Intelligence and Special Operations, today held a one-on-one call with the Israeli Ambassador to the United States, Michael Herzog, to discuss the Hamas terrorist attacks and how Congress intends to support Israel.
Statement from Rep. Ruben Gallego (AZ-03):
"On a call today with Ambassador Herzog, I reassured him of my steadfast commitment to support our strong friend and longtime ally, Israel. I stressed my intention to continue pushing my colleagues in Congress to provide Israel with the resources and military assets it needs to defend itself, defeat Hamas, and bring those responsible to justice.
"Right now, it is as critical as ever that we stand firm in Israel's defense. As a former combat infantryman, I know firsthand the challenges of urban warfare, and that's why we must do all we can to support the men and women of the Israeli Defense Forces.
"Reports on the ground tragically show Hamas terrorists killing, raping, and taking hostage innocent Israeli civilians, including Americans. That is barbarism, not war, and I expressed my condolences for this deeply tragic loss of life.
"Ambassador Herzog noted that this is a defining moment for Israel. I could not agree more.
"We concluded the call with a promise to maintain a dialogue as Congress introduces, debates, and works to pass a supplemental funding package for Israel."
Earlier today, Rep. Gallego introduced a bipartisan resolution underscoring the United States’ support for Israel, condemning Hamas’ brutal war on Israel, and mourning those who were killed.
On Saturday, Rep. Gallego released a statement condemning the attack, calling the unprovoked terrorist attacks by Hamas “alarming and horrifying.”
