Gallego Celebrates Finland Joining NATO
Washington, D.C. – Today, Finland officially joined the NATO security alliance, a move precipitated by Russian President Vladimir Putin’s unjust and unprovoked invasion of Ukraine.
Rep. Ruben Gallego, a member of the U.S. Helsinki Commission and ranking member of the House Armed Services Subcommittee on Intelligence and Special Operations, issued the following statement:
“When Vladimir Putin launched his brutal campaign of aggression against Ukraine, he saw NATO and Europe as too weak and divided to respond. He was dead wrong. The United States and our NATO allies and partners are more united by our shared values and common interests today than we were when Putin’s war started. Now, with our newest ally, Finland, we will continue to further enhance our collective security and ensure a strong defense for every inch of NATO territory. Today is a good day for the United States, Finland, and NATO, and I look forward to also welcoming Sweden to the alliance very soon.”
