Gallego Announces Over $2.4 Million for Arizona Tribes to Lower Home Energy Costs

PHOENIX, AZ – On the first day of Native American Heritage Month, Rep. Ruben Gallego (AZ-03) announced that nine Arizona Tribes were awarded a total of $2,458,891 in funding for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP). In addition, the State of Arizona has been awarded $30,937,243. This funding will help Arizona families pay their home heating costs this winter, and cooling bills next summer. LIHEAP can also be used to weatherize homes to make them more energy efficient, and during disasters and extreme weather to mitigate energy emergencies.

“Whether it’s keeping Valley residents cool in the summer or mountain residents warm in the winter, LIHEAP is a lifeline for many Arizona families - especially on Tribal lands,” said Rep. Gallego. “As a long-time supporter of LIHEAP, I was proud to support the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and omnibus funding package that made this funding possible, and I am excited to announce Arizona’s share today.”

Arizona tribes that administer LIHEAP directly will receive:

  • Cocopah Tribe, $11,980
  • Colorado River Indian Tribes, $38,765
  • Gila River Pima-Maricopa Community, $120,908
  • Navajo Nation, $1,992,066
  • Pascua Yaqui Tribe, $46,188
  • Quechan Tribe, $25,718
