Washington, DC - Congressman Gallego released the following statement about the shooting at the Historic Emanuel AME Church in Charleston, South Carolina:
"I want to extend my condolences to the families and loved ones of the victims in the shooting at the historic Emanuel AME Church in Charleston, South Carolina. Our country mourns today for the lives that were taken last night in such a despicable and heinous way. Our citizens should feel safe to attend church and live their day to day lives without fear."
"I know nothing can take away the pain of losing a loved one - much less in this way - but I hope our thoughts and prayers bring some kind of comfort to those affected by this horrible tragedy. I commend the Department of Justice for opening a hate crime investigation and for putting the full weight of the Department behind making sure the person responsible for this act of violence faces justice."
