Our nation is facing one of the gravest health and economic emergencies in over 100 years. The coronavirus pandemic has had a deep impact on every aspect of American life — and bold action is required to address the health emergency, mitigate the economic damage, and provide for a strong recovery.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, House Democrats have focused on ensuring our nation’s response puts workers and families first: their health, their wages and their wellbeing. In March 2020, I voted for The Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (CARES Act), a $2.2 trillion economic stimulus bill which delivered the first relief to our communities. I have continued to fight since then for more economic relief for our communities, including a second COVID-relief bill for $900 billion in December 2020.
On March 10, 2021 – nearly one year after COVID-19 was declared a global pandemic – Congress passed H.R. 1319, the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA). I was proud to vote for this third piece of legislation which takes more of the continued and bold action necessary to defeat the virus, help struggling Americans, and rebuild our economy. President Biden signed this legislation into law on March 11, 2021.
